Mylar Bags and Oxygen Absorbers
Where can you buy these items, or do you have to order on-line ?
I live in the boonies and was hoping to be able to find somewhere in Spokane, I'll be there next week.. Any suggestions ? Thanks |
Re: Mylar Bags and Oxygen Absorbers
I doubt you'll find them locally. The food prep places are taking months to ship so I would get them online at sorbent systems.

For silica gel, go to any discount shoe store or WalMart or Target and look around on the floor or open up the shoe boxes and take a few.

Thank You all soooo much !!
I've 'FINALLY' convinced my husband we need to take some action here .. Phew ~ no more sneaking Rice and canned salmon into the house .. Darn it he's even reading GIM .. Which means nothing I say in GIM stays in GIM anymore :confused_ma: |
Re: Mylar Bags and Oxygen Absorbers
I just received today a bag of 100 300cc O2 absorbers from Cherubim Food Provisions.
Cost was $21.10 plus $9.31 shipping or $30.41 total. Knowing me I paid too much. I plan on using 1 per 1 quart mason jar and also vacuum sealing them. Probably way overkill but I figure better to err on too much rather than too little. Thanks for the link to the bucket video, I don't know that I can convince my wife to let me store that much at once but it's possible. |

1) You can store your unused oxygen absorbers in vacuum-sealed mason jars and they do keep. I have some that are several years old and still good (no oxygen to use them up in those jars, hehehe.) 2) If you overkill your food storage jars with an oversized O2 absorber, when you finally open the jar, you can remove the contents you want, re-seal the jar, and still have plenty of O2 absorber left over to protect the remaining contents. I've used this to keep brown rice going way beyond its expected life. I love the vacuum seal on O2 protected jars. The overkill factor works to your advantage really well. |
Re: Mylar Bags and Oxygen Absorbers
you guys, check the stickies at the top of the page.. There are a lot of links for ordering up there. We put them up there to make it easier for new people coming in.

Re: Mylar Bags and Oxygen Absorbers
LDS sells them very cheap. I got them from www.lds.org for that price, but they took their food storage purchase page down due to high volume. That page seems to come and go lately. Keep in mind they are 300cc absorbers, not 500. Still a bargain.

We did some major food storage operations this weekend... packed up about 200 lbs of rice, 100 lbs of beans, and have some more beans and pasta on order... couldn't have done any of this without the resources that I found here. SorbentSystems is a pretty good company - fast and reasonable on cost. |
